Form 706, the DSUE and the Surviving Spouse

2 CPE for AFSP, EA, CFP®, CPA, CRTP

With tax reform set to expire, no one knows what will happen with the estate exemption. That is why it is essential to protect the surviving spouse by securing the DSUE. This hands-on session will review when a Form 706, United States Estate (and Generation-Skipping Transfer) Tax Return, should be filed and how to prepare the form when you are securing the DSUE for a surviving spouse.

Upon completion of this session, you will be able to:

  • Recognize when a federal estate tax return is required and when it is advisable

  • Prepare a basic Form 706

  • Calculate and secure the DSUE (deceased spouse unused exemption) for the surviving spouse
