Tax Efficient Retirement Distributions
1 CPE for AFSP, EA, CFP®, CPA, CRTP

Research on tax-efficient retirement distribution strategies aims to sequence withdrawals from taxable, tax-deferred and tax-exempt accounts to maximize after-tax spending. During this session we will simulate different strategies to determine which one provides the greatest tax efficiency in terms of supporting the most after-tax spending and legacy for retirees. We focus on how to source retirement spending needs as well as deciding whether to generate additional taxable income through Roth conversions.
Objectives
Upon completion of this session, you will be able to:
-
Summarize why the "bracket" should not be the focus of the discussion
-
Outline how retirees can see effective marginal tax rates dramatically higher than their bracket would suggest
-
Identify why tax deferral can create tax challenges
-
Summarize how Roth conversions fit into a retirement income strategy
