Secure Your Practice and Build Your Required WISP

A written information security plan (WISP) is required for all tax and accounting practices. In this session, we’ll look at the governing laws protecting your clients’ personal identifiable information (PII) and explain cybersecurity terminology such as QRishing and vishing. Using IRS Publication 5708 as a starting point, we’ll discuss ways to secure your tax practice from a cyberattack and the steps to build your own basic plan for your office. Lastly, if the worst was to happen, we’ll examine what to do in the event of a cyber breach.  

Upon completion of this session, you will be able to:

  • Identify the fundamentals of your cybersecurity responsibilities in a tax practice 

  • Understand key cybersecurity terms 

  • Outline the foundational information needed to build your own WISP 

  • Understand the importance of employee training  

  • Take appropriate action if you have a cyber breach
